Almond biscotti, a cookie that associated with sweet memory. N years ago when my hubby (boy friend then) and I were separated almost 2000 miles by sea, I sent him home-made biscotti. This is something that my mom used to cook pretty often when I was little. Mom's original version was without the green and cooked with cubed pork belly. She loved to use preserved soy bean in cooking, the best was baby shark in this style.

I like fresh fig with cheese, simply love it in cheese platter. I remember fig trees I saw in Australia were huge but they were tiny ones I saw in Japan. When we drove around in the neighbourhood, I was excited to see tiny fig trees (close to pot plants) bearing lots of fruits.

At last, I made this kuih lapis (literally means layered cake) that I planned long time ago. I used to make the other version of kuih lapis using only rice flour, with pink and white layers. Nyonya version is colourful and bouncy in the mouth, I like it very much.

This time of the year many durian recipes will appear on both Malaysian and Singaporean foodies' blog. I have not tried something new yet, for this rolled cake I combined two existing recipes  on My Kitchen. Used T's favourite D14 durian for the cream, he simply loved it.

This was the thing that made J(3y5m) came to me with a cute little cheeky face and whispered to me "ice block". It was his strategy after few 'no" from me but it did not work too (this mama is really bad).  He loved it so much that I had to hide one for myself his treat the next day.

I craved for Chai Kueh (菜粿) for long finally made it yesterday. Well, it is widely available here in Penang but I am little picky about this kueh. I like soft but not mushy skin, it also should not be sticking to teeth when chewing.

Yes, you are looking at the right photo. It was Chinese steamed bun with yam served with cheese and veggies sticks we had for breakfast. Sliced bun was pan-fried with tinny bit of butter till golden brown, slightly crispy on the outside and soft inside. Never expected yam and cheese is such a good combination.

Sobameshi (そば飯 ), literally means noodles-rice, is pan fried noodles together with steamed rice. It is a common Japanese home-cooked dish that my boys like. I baked an apple tart for entertaining our guests yesterday afternoon, a basic shortbread crust with custard filling, topped with apple slices and almond slices. It was served at room temperature simply delicious with a cup of coffee.

Japanese seafood miso soup is usually cooked with red miso, which has  stronger taste and saltier than ones cooked white miso. I personally prefer to use  white miso for all kind of soup, not so authentic but well accepted by my family.

Made some pan-fried buns that I longed for before my holiday. It is one of the popular buns in China and Taiwan but not so common in Malaysia. Cooking method for this bun is similar to Gyoza, steamed and pan-fried in a non-stick pan. Soft bun, crispy bottom and juicy filling, I gobbled up three buns soon after photo shooting.

Mom harvested lots of pumpkins from her veges patch, my sis took two and mom insisted that I should bring back all her stock since there were few more maturing in no times. We came back with one large and three medium size pumpkin, total weight was about 10 kgs!

I personally do not like egg-tofu that much, find it too egg-y. In general, I do love tofu. Not sure it is because of genetic or what, both old and little boys at our home love tofu so much. T will be very happy if I prepare his favourite tofu dish, a very simple tofu dish that I am shy to share the "recipe" here.

There are only handful of purple fruits and vegetables we consume on a not-so regular basis, such as purple dragon fruit, grapes and black fungus.
