Durians are so cheap now in here, I am not talking about those with "class" ya. Durians in this area are usually sold by owners of the durian farms. Beware of the roadside durian stalls between Kampar and Ipoh, they are charging triple or even higher if your car registeration plate is not local. We bought twice from the roadside stalls, very expensive! Why did we buy then? It was simply that we did not know the so called market price of durian in here. The price we set in our mind was for the "classy" durian in KL. After first time, second time and n time buying from the seller at local market, we confirmed that we were "cheated" by the roadside sellers.
Been buying durian almost every weekend for the last few weeks. T loves durian too but he is a small eater, unlike me... a hungry ghost for durian. Could not get enough but I do feel guilty of eating too much durian though. Sugar! Sugar! Sugar! High! High! High!
Ingredients (5-6 pcs):
- 80g All-purpose Flour
- ¾ tsp Baking Powder
- 60g Castor Sugar
- 1 no. Egg (L), lightly beaten
- 60g Butter, melted
- 60ml Milk
- ½ tsp Vanilla Essence
- ½ cup Durian Puree
- Additional durian flesh for topping (optional)
Methods:
- Preheat oven to 175degC.
- In a large mixing bowl, sift and mix together flour, baking powder and sugar. Make a well in the middle and add in egg, butter, milk and vanilla.
- Stir to combine, then add in durian puree. Stir till just combined.
- Fill each muffin cup up to 80% full, top with durian flesh then bake for 20-25 minutes.
Something else...
Finally I found this muffin cup that I long for. I like it very much but the price is a bit expensive for me, it is about RM0.25 each. Does anyone have cheaper supply of this cup?
Wow Wow!! This durian muffin looks divine! I love durian too unfortunately they are not commonly available in Melbourne. =(

Hi Eileen, my Home Sweet Home is here. Have no plan going to Sg yet, but I will someday most probably when J is bigger.
ReplyDeleteHello, I really luv to read ur blog! I'm italian so to me it's interesting and exotic. Once, I tried sandwich cookies filled with durian flavored cream. It was been one of the most disgusting taste expeiences of my life! :) It taste like onion and smell of natural gas! :)So I would like to know why is considered such a delicacy, I would like to give it a second try can u suggest me the best way to consume it? Greetings from Italy
ReplyDeleteHi Scila,
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropped by! I guess you need to taste it bit by bit and slowly learn to love it. That's the way I learnt how to appreciate a smelly (no longer smelly to me) blue cheese. lol
FYI, frozen durian has less durian taste/aroma but it is stronger than the cream in cookies though. I guess it is hard to get good durian beyond SE Asia.
Like your 'mushroom-top' muffins, gonna KIV this recipe for when durian season is here again.
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI would like to know the durian pureee you used - is it real durian flesh or those longish durian roll (what we call 'liu lian gao' in chinese)?
Do you know where can I get durian puree in Singapore or KL or Johor? Appreciate your advice . Thank you.
Cheers,
Patsy
Hi Patsy,
ReplyDeleteThe puree I used was fresh durian, pureed it myself. Not sure where to get durian puree, or is it available in the market?
To make puree, prepare required amount of durian flesh and puree it. You can also blend it together with milk in a blender to get smooth paste.
All the best!
Hi there,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reply. I'm really new to baking so hope you dun mind my questions. :)
By puree, do you mean removing the real durian fresh and put it in a blender to blend it? Do i need to add any liquid e.g. cream, milk or water ?
Patsy,
ReplyDeleteYou can try to blend it without water or milk first. If need some liquid, add milk as this recipe call for milk.
If using food processor, no liquid is needed. Another way (if you don't mind chunky durian), place durian flesh on a clean chopping board (the one use for fruit/veges) and chop with a knife.
Hope this helps.
this is amazing recipe. thanks for this idea. will try this recipe because i have lots of durian and cant eat them all. :)
