Eat! Kyoto! - Part II

Sushi

We had cheap and good sushi at a small sushi restaurant near to Teramachi Street. The restaurant was very crowded during lunch time, we waited for more than 20 minutes to get a table. It wouldn't be long waiting for sushi counter if we visited in pair. First and second photo were set meals, 900yen and 1000yen each. All set meals come with chawanmushi and miso soup. Not to mention about green tea, all restaurants we visited provide free flow of green tea including chilled green tea for my boy!

I ordered a set meal with mostly cooked items so that I can share with my boy. There were sashimi, vegetables dish (shiitake mushroom, bamboo shoot and yuba), sushi and grilled salmon in the box. Another set meal ordered by Fong was 10 pieces of assorted sushi. The toppings were huge, unlike sushi I had before outside Japan.

T ordered a plate of ikura sushi (2 pieces), it was a wow when when it was served - mountain full of ikura! Size of ikura was much bigger than what I had before. T also ordered an abalone set, about 1500 yen. An abalone was prepared into sashimi, sushi and an appetiser dish at the side. T said it was cheap. By the way, I am not a big fan of abalone sashimi but I thought it was very fresh.

AbaloneSet

We also ordered two plates of toro sashimi sushi (salmon belly), 360yen per plate. Another woooow... the toro was so thick and big, it was almost 4 times of the size of sushi rice. And, there were generous sprinkle of ikura over the sushi. All of us could not help but kept making sound of satisfaction... hmm...hmm... (Sorry, no photo for this one as I was too busy with eating and feeding my boy).

Teramachi Nisiki

After lunch, we went to covered shopping streets such as Teramachi and Nishiki Market. There were many temples in between shops and restaurants along Teramachi street. I liked Nishiki Market very much, lots of food testing! We tested pickles, mochi, roasted sweet potato, dried fish, nuts and more.

  3. Mery,
Sushi was fresh and cheap. The rice itself tasted better too, firm and chewvy.

    Joanne,
Yuba is bean curd sheet (tao kee) but it is fresh one. When cooking soya bean drink, if leave it for awhile without stirring, a thin sheet will form on the surface... that's it.
