Steamed Chicken [Simple Home Cook]

Steamed Chicken

T likes salted chicken (盐焗鸡) very much thus I tried to re-create something similar in this dish with really simple ingredients. Honestly, I was lazy then. This is an all-in-one dish with minimum preparation and washing.

1 no. chicken leg (kampung/free range), chopped
1 tsp salt or to taste
1 tsp sesame oil
Carrot (optional)

  1. Rub chicken pieces with salt and marinate for 1-2 hours, in the fridge.
  2. Add in sesame oil and mix to coat chicken with oil, this helps to keep the moist in.
  3. Steam in preheated steamer on medium heat for 20 minutes.
  4. Throw in some sliced carrot and arrange broccoli at the side.
  5. Continue to steam for 2-3 minutes. Serve warm with steamed rice.

I have a question. did u marinated the chicken together with soy sauce too? because the colour is a bit brown. I never try steamed chicken but looking forward to try this recipe since it is soo simple.

No, I did not use soy sauce for this one, but sure you can add any seasoning (cooking wine, ginger, garlic, oyster sauce, soy sauce, etc) to suit your taste. I used free range chicken, its colous was bit yellowish than farm raised chicken.

Hi Lydia, it's great to find your site :) I love your posts and how good all the dishes look.

I want to ask you about steaming. I have steamed chicken a few times, but i always end up with too much "juice"/gravy, which caused the chicken to taste soggy. Is it normal? The chicken in the pic looks so nice!

It is normal but if you don't like gravy it can be prevented. Cover steamer cover with a muslin fabric to prevent water from dripping into the dish.
