Buta no Shigureni (豚のしぐれ煮) is a quick and simple home-cooked dish, by simmering sliced pork in sauce. It goes really well with steamed rice as main dish or as side dish in obento. You can also use this recipe for seafood, remember to add in some shredded ginger to get rid of the fishiness.
Ingredients:
- 200g pork belly, thinly sliced (shabu-shabu cut)
- ¼ onion, shredded
- Sauce:
- 2 tbsp water
- 1-2 tbsp light soy sauce
- 1 tbsp mirin
- 1 tbsp sake
- Sugar to taste
Method:
- Put all ingredients for sauce in a pot, bring to a boil.
- Add in sliced pork, once the sauce starts to boil again turn the heat to low.
- Cook on low heat for 4-5 minutes or until it is well done. Turn the heat off.
