MM: Earth Food - Sweet Potato Chips

Homemade Sweet Potato Chips

I am presenting you with a healthy snack and it is very easy to make. It can be served sweet or savory, the choice is yours. I gobbled up the first batch as I was cooking the second batch... and the cycle continued. At the end, left with only what you can see in the photo.

I would call this snack a down-to-earth food as it is low in GI, fat and seasoning-free, but packed with the natural sweetness of humble sweet potato. If you are interested in helping the earth and this foodie event, please head over to What's for lunch honey? for details.

One of the small actions that we have been practicing consciously to help our earth is using a timer for the heater at nights. The timer is set to turn the heater off automatically 4 hours after we have gone to bed. Other actions include recycling bottles, papers and water. How do I recycle water? I use water from the washing machine to wash our balconies. You will be surprised how many buckets of water you will get from a small load of washing.

Ingredients:
Sweet Potatoes
Water
Cinnamon Sugar (optional)
Salt (optional)

Directions:
  1. Peel and slice sweet potatoes thinly
  2. Arrange slices on microwave's plate (single layer) then spray with water lightly.
  3. Cook in microwave on high for 3 to 5 minutes, depending on the thickness of the sweet potato.
  4. Sprinkle with some cinnamon sugar or salt (optional).

  3. isha: I used to make the deep-fried version with sweet potato and tapioca. This is the first time I tried oil-less version, tasted great too.

Jo: Thanks... I dont have studio, usually I take photo at the brightest spot at home. The black b/g is actually a cardboard.

  7. tigerfish: am trying to use micro other than just heating up the food. it can be used for baking too... not yet try that out though.

meeta: lots of little steps become big steps... so I am moving a big step each year, I hope. lol

marye: try a small amount at a time until you get it right, different micro works differently. I like the oven version for potato chips too... but it takes longer to cook.
